[WAYSTONES]GUIDE

Waystones.
Travel, built in.

No plain /sethome: on BreakoutSMP you build physical Waystones and travel the network between them, across the Overworld, the Nether and the End.

[IN 30 SECONDS]

What are Waystones?

Waystones replace the usual /sethome. You place a physical Waystone in the world and ring its bell to open the teleport network.

  • Up to 4 personal Waystones per player.
  • One Waystone can be your Home; /home takes you there.
  • Right-click any Waystone's bell to open the network.
  • You see your own Waystones, Waystones you are trusted on, and every public Waystone.
  • Private Waystones stay hidden from players without access.
  • Travel between Overworld, Nether and The End, in every direction.
  • Players can place Waystones in the Overworld, Nether and The End.
[PLACING]

Personal Waystones

Every player can place up to 4 Waystones of their own. The Waystone is crafted as a special Recovery Compass called BreakoutSMP Waystone. Waystones must be at least 5 blocks apart.

[HOME]

One Home Waystone

Pick one Waystone as your Home and /home brings you back from anywhere, also from another dimension. It can be your own Waystone or one you are explicitly trusted on.

[ACCESS]

Private & public

A Waystone is either private or public. Private ones are only a destination for the owner and trusted players; public ones are open to everyone.

[TRUST]

Trusted players

Trusted players can travel to the Waystone, set it as their own Home and remove it. Renaming, privacy and the trust list stay with the owner.

[INTERACTION]

The bell is the terminal

Anyone can right-click any Waystone bell. It always opens the network, even if that Waystone is not yours. Shift-right-click your own bell to manage it.

[HOLOGRAM]

Floating name

Every Waystone shows its name as floating text above the bell, for example Home: Base Camp.

[MENU]

Icons in the network

Your Home shows as a red bed, your other Waystones as a compass, other players' Waystones with the owner's head, and official server Waystones with their own icon.

[TELEPORT]

Warm-up & cooldown

Teleporting takes 3 seconds; moving or taking damage cancels it. After a trip there is a 10-second cooldown. You arrive on the side where the owner stood when placing it.

[REMOVING]

Removing a Waystone

Waystones cannot be broken by hand, explosions, pistons or water. The plugin protects the stone wall, lodestone and bell.

  • Only the owner or a trusted player can remove it.
  • Removing is done from the management menu, with a confirmation first.
  • The owner always gets the Waystone item back, also when they are offline (it is delivered on their next join).
  • Every Home that pointed to the removed Waystone is cleared.
[CRAFTING]

Crafting recipe

Craft a BreakoutSMP Waystone in a crafting table:

BreakoutSMP Waystone
  • 4× Obsidian
  • 2× Ender Pearl
  • 2× Amethyst Shard
  • 1× Lodestone
[STEP BY STEP]

How do you use a Waystone?

  1. Craft a Waystone with the special crafting recipe.
  2. Place it on top of a solid block in the Overworld, the Nether or the End. The plugin builds the Waystone with its bell and floating name.
  3. Give it a name in chat, for example Base Camp, Shop or Nether Hub.
  4. Right-click the bell. Every Waystone is an entrance to the network.
  5. Pick a destination: your own Waystones, trusted Waystones and public Waystones, in every dimension, with your current dimension first.
  6. Teleport! Stand still for 3 seconds and you are there.
[EXAMPLE]

Alex meets Sam's Waystone

Alex stands next to Sam's private Waystone. Alex is not trusted.

Alex can still right-click Sam's bell and sees the network. From there Alex can teleport to their own Base Camp, to a Waystone of someone who trusts them, or to Spawn because it is public, even if Spawn is in another dimension.

Sam's private Waystone does not appear as a destination as long as Alex has no access to it.

[WHY]

Why like this?

Waystones give fast travel without making normal travel pointless. Roads, horses, boats, Elytra, Nether routes and rail lines all keep their value, and every Waystone is a place someone built.
